Acne Myths
Let's
face it, there is so much misinformation floating around about acne.
Since most acne sufferers are teenagers, acne myths can spread like
wild fire either at school or at social networking sites. To make
matters worse, many acne product marketers are looking to exploit any
acne myth they can to make a quick and easy sale. Unfortunately acne
myths can actually make a person s acne worse and make treating acne a
long and uncomfortable process. In this article, we will look at the
most common myths and debunk them.
Scrub Acne Away
One of the most common myths
regarding acne is that in order to get rid of it, you must use powerful
cleansers and scrub your acne away. This is one of the most damaging
myths around, because most people suffering acne will only harm their
skin and in many cases make their acne worse. While it is important to
clean your skin each and every day (twice daily, once in the morning
and once at bedtime), you should never harshly scrub your face.
Scrubbing your face will not only irritate and damage your skin, but if
you have sebum and bacteria on your face, you will spread it around
your face and deep inside your pores, possibly causing other break
outs. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist on the proper way to clean your
skin.
Certain Foods Can Cause Acne
This is another
myth that seems logical, but has been debunked by the experts. There is
no evidence that suggest foods such as chocolate, spicy or oily foods
cause acne. Actually a healthy diet of lots of different foods can
improve your acne in certain situations, by making sure you receive
enough vitamins and minerals.
Make Up is a Great Way to Hide Your Acne
Acne can be an embarrassing skin disease. No one wants to walk around
with a huge zit on their face, so most women conceal it with cosmetics
and make up. Unfortunately, concealing your acne with make up can make
your acne far worse. Make up can easily clog pores and can cause
reactions to your skin such as rashes and breakouts. If you wear make
up, make sure you apply it liberally, make sure it is hypo allergenic
and make sure you clean it off your skin each and every day.
Pop Your Pimples to Remove Acne
In certain
situations, removing your pimples by popping them can clear up your
face; however, popping certain pimples and incorrectly popping pimples
can in many circumstances cause acne to spread. When you pop a pimple,
material oozes out of the pore, this includes sebum and bacteria.
Incorrectly popping a pimple can help spread these acne causing
materials around your face. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist on how to
correctly pop a pimple and which pimples can be popped.
There are plenty of acne myths floating around, if you hear a
new acne myth, you should always consult with your pharmacist or doctor
to make sure you know the truth about acne.
